Forgiveness vs. Flesh

The spirit of forgiveness
Is so foreign to my flesh,
Yet without the peace it brings
My soul can find no rest.

Unforgiveness, unconfessed
Gave birth to other sin
And unknowingly I invited
The enemy to enter in.

The disease of criticism,
And gossip followed near
As my lips gave way to speak
What satan whispered in my ear.

But through the blood of Jesus Christ
Comes power to fight back,
And clad in God's full armor
I rise up against attack.

When demons, unbeknownst to me
Seek to harden my heart
By Your power and authority
I command them to depart.

Lord, reveal the unforgiveness
I have nurtured in my sin.
Grant me freedom from its bondage,
May Your Spirit reign within.
